From the Yea Chronicle, 9 December 2009:
On Monday 7 December, twelve enthusiastic artists attended a pen and ink drawing workshop in Yea. A day of sunshine saw the participants share their time between the indoor room for instruction and exercises, and the outdoor courtyard for capturing natural images.
Kyneton artist Sarah Gabriel leads workshops in experiential drawing, which shifts the artist’s focus away from technique and toward habits for creative expression. Sarah helps adults overcome the inhibitions of a mature perspective that creates a sense of right and wrong in art.
“There’s nothing intrinsically mysterious about the mechanics of drawing,” Sarah says. “Anyone can learn to draw if they adopt the best approach.” The workshop is a relaxing experience, with exercises including drawing with the non-dominant hand to help artists use the right side of the brain, tapping into their creative side.
100k North Arts organised the workshop, which Adele Anderson hopes will be the first of many. “We had more applicants than places, so we’ll run this again in the new year. We’ll also look to organise a range of other creative sessions to appeal to the widest group of people.”
100k North Arts will be running further workshops during 2010. Contact us if you are interested in attending, or have an idea for a workshop.
